How to Build Your First Automation

Step-by-step guide to create your first GetSales automation, from connection requests to follow-ups and email outreach.

Now that you've connected your sender profiles and added leads, it's time to build your first automation. Automations are the heart of GetSales, offering flexibility and power to run your campaigns efficiently.

Step 1: Create Segments for Your Automation

You have two main options when building automations:

  • Separate automations per segment — each segment follows its own unique path, and leads in one segment won't interact with the other.

  • One automation for all segments — all leads follow the same path. This is simpler to manage for straightforward campaigns.

Step 2: Check Lead Connections

Before sending a message, verify whether you're already connected with each lead. Add a "Connection Request Accepted" node to check connection status. If a lead isn't connected yet, this is where you send the connection request.

Step 3: A/B Test and Set Delays

When sending connection requests, you can include a message or leave it blank. Set up A/B tests to compare conversion rates between the two approaches.

After sending the request, add a delay (typically 14–21 days) before checking whether it was accepted. If accepted, the lead progresses to the next step.

Step 4: Add Social Engagement Actions

Boost connection acceptance by adding social actions before or after the connection request:

  • Visit the lead's profile

  • Endorse their skills

  • Like their recent posts

These actions make your outreach appear more natural and increase acceptance rates.

Step 5: Handle Non-Connections with Email Fallback

If a connection request isn't accepted after 2–3 weeks, you can:

  • Withdraw the request to keep your pending count low, or

  • Move the lead to email outreach by checking for a work email and sending a follow-up there.

Step 6: Send Messages and Follow-Ups

Once connected, start sending personalized messages using variables (e.g., the lead's first name). Build a follow-up sequence with delays between messages.

Important: If a lead replies at any point, the automation automatically pauses for that lead to avoid sending redundant messages.

Step 7: Use Tags and Advanced Strategies

For more advanced workflows, you can:

  • Tag leads based on their behavior or stage

  • Change sender profiles mid-automation

  • Reassign leads to different automations for a fresh approach

Leads can be part of multiple automations simultaneously, and you'll have access to detailed analytics on conversion rates and task completion.
